Karoo's core range uses rice as a single-grain, low-glycaemic carbohydrate source rather than being entirely grain-free. Rice provides sustained energy throughout the day and is generally well-tolerated by pets with grain sensitivities, as it is naturally gluten-free. The recipes are free from corn, wheat, soya, and gluten. Some targeted-care formulas use brown rice specifically for its blood-sugar metabolism benefits. The wet food range and Karoo Wild treats are grain-free.

For dogs, the range includes Puppy formulas for small-to-medium breeds and large-to-giant breeds, an All Breed Adult formula, and a Senior formula with cognitive and joint support. Speciality dog formulas include beef with added collagen for joint support, hypoallergenic venison for dogs with protein sensitivities, duck for metabolic diets, and turkey with lamb for gut health. Cat formulas use chicken and lamb for the core range and trout for the hypoallergenic option. Wet food includes lamb, ostrich, chicken, duck, and salmon. The Karoo Wild treats range features sustainably sourced African antelope (springbok) as the number one ingredient.

Yes. Karoo's limited-ingredient formulation and single-grain approach make it a strong choice for pets with food sensitivities. Yes. All Karoo dry food recipes include added glucosamine sulphate (640 mg/kg) and chondroitin sulphate (330 mg/kg) to support joint health, mobility, and flexibility. This is particularly beneficial for large-breed dogs, active working dogs, and senior pets. The Beef and Lamb formula also includes added hydrolysed collagen, which promotes lean muscle development while supporting ligament, tendon, and bone strength. These joint-supporting nutrients are included across puppy, adult, and senior formulas.

Switch gradually over 7 to 10 days to avoid digestive upset. During days 1 to 3, feed 25% Karoo mixed with 75% of the current food. From days 4 to 6, move to a 50/50 blend. During days 7 to 9, increase to 75% Karoo and 25% current food. By day 10, your pet should be eating 100% Karoo. For pets with particularly sensitive stomachs, extend the transition to two weeks. Always make sure fresh, clean water is available. If you notice any digestive changes, slow the transition and allow your pet more time to adjust.

Yes. All Karoo dry and wet food products are formulated to meet the nutritional standards for complete and balanced diets, registered under Act 36 of 1947. This means every meal provides the right balance of protein, fat, fibre, vitamins, and minerals your pet needs without requiring any additional supplementation. The only exceptions are the Karoo Wild treats, which are intended as supplementary treats and are not a complete diet on their own.
