Otherwise, start with your cat's age - kitten (up to 12 months), adult (1-7 years) or mature (7+ years). Then factor in lifestyle and needs: indoor cats benefit from the Indoor formula, neutered cats from Sterilised, and fussy eaters from one of the Exigent formulas. If your cat has a specific sensitivity like digestion or hairballs, the relevant care formula would be the best choice.

Royal Canin Kitten food is specifically formulated to support healthy growth from weaning through to 12 months of age. It features a higher energy content to fuel rapid growth, an antioxidant complex including vitamins E and C to support the developing immune system, and highly digestible proteins that are gentle on young digestive systems. The kibble is small and easy for kittens to chew, and a wet food version is also available. For very young kittens transitioning from mother's milk, Royal Canin Mother and Babycat provides a soft mousse texture that is easy to lap up.

A mixed feeding approach works well for many cats. Dry kibble provides dental benefits through the chewing action, is easy to portion, and stays fresh in the bowl throughout the day - ideal for cats who prefer to graze. Wet food offers significantly higher moisture content, which supports urinary tract health and hydration, and many cats find it more palatable. The breed-specific cat formulas are developed in collaboration with breeders to address the unique needs of each breed. The Persian formula has an almond-shaped kibble designed for the breed's flat face and undershot jaw, plus nutrients to support their long, dense coat. The Maine Coon diet includes taurine and EPA/DHA for cardiac health, plus support for the breed's large bone structure. The Siamese formula features a tubular kibble shape suited to the breed's elongated jaw, with high protein content to maintain their lean muscle mass. These formulas go far beyond generic cat food.

Daily feeding amounts depend on your cat's weight, age, activity level and whether they are neutered. Cats naturally prefer to eat multiple small meals throughout the day, so leaving dry kibble available for grazing is a common approach. If feeding wet food, serve it fresh and remove any uneaten portion after an hour. Always ensure clean, fresh water is available. Monitor your cat's body condition regularly and adjust portions if they are gaining or losing weight.

Three things, by stage. Instinctive +7 pouches cover the middle years from seven. From eleven, Ageing 11+ runs in both dry food and pouches, built around Royal Canin's HealthyAge7 complex, which the pack describes as covering kidneys, skin and coat, mobility, appetite, digestion, brain and immunity. For neutered seniors there is Sterilised Ageing 11+, which manages the lower energy requirement that follows sterilisation.

Indoor 27 is built for cats that live entirely indoors, where lower activity and longer grooming time mean fewer calories are needed and more hair is swallowed. The formula moderates energy content and supports hairball elimination. If your cat roams, the Outdoor formula supports higher activity instead. Both are adult diets: kittens and seniors have their own ranges, and neutered cats are usually better matched to Sterilised 37.
